Corral Drive Elementary School welcomed its first students on September 7, 1993, marking the culmination of construction efforts initiated in November 1991, and final completion achieved on June 25th, 1994. The school’s grand debut was celebrated with a public open house on September 25, 1993, ushering in not only a new educational facility but also a fresh student body, a dedicated staff, a burgeoning community, and the birth of cherished traditions.
The inaugural academic year, spanning 1993-1994, was devoted to fostering inclusion and forging a united community. The infectious enthusiasm that students and educators brought into the new school building that year only grew stronger in the years that followed.
The school’s layout consists of three wings, each housing six classrooms. The first wing accommodates Kindergarten and 1st grade, the second is dedicated to 2nd and 3rd grade, while the third wing caters to 4th and 5th graders. In the heart of the building, you’ll find the library, a learning center, and several support classrooms. Our spacious facilities also include a gymnasium, a music room, and a versatile multi-purpose room that serves as the venue for orchestra, the lunchroom, and our after-school program, Kidstop.
In 2012, Corral Drive Elementary, in collaboration with Southwest Middle School, reengineered the flow of traffic for buses and parents dropping off and picking up students. Significant alterations to the school grounds were made to streamline this process and expand parking options for staff and parents. As part of this transformation, Corral Drive’s main office was relocated to the opposite side of the building, and an addition was constructed to accommodate this change. Consequently, the main entrance was relocated to the school’s west side as well.
Three decades have now passed since Corral Drive Elementary School’s inaugural day, and it has evolved into a vibrant hub of education and community spirit. Nestled on the cusp of the majestic Black Hills, our school community has continued to thrive, welcoming new families to the area annually. The tireless efforts of our dedicated PTA have fostered collaboration between parents and teachers, ensuring that every student enjoys the best possible elementary school experience. Our esteemed educators and staff take immense pride in their roles as Corral Drive Coyotes, striving to provide each student the opportunity to become life-long learners who will become responsible and productive citizens in our community as we prepare them for the challenges of middle school.
