Hello,
As we begin a new semester, we’d like to take a moment to share with our new families, and remind our other families of our drop-off and pick-up procedures to help ensure safety and efficiency before and after school. The attached photo highlights the information and expected flow and locations during these times.

Additionally, for the month of January, students are eating lunch at a slightly adjusted time as we pilot a new lunch and recess schedule with lunch recess being before lunchtime. This adjustment is intended to support student engagement and smooth transitions throughout the day. Depending on how it goes, it may continue past January.

New Lunch Times:
Kindergarten 11:05-11:25
1st 11:25-11:45
2nd 11:45-12:05
3rd 12:05-12:25
4th 12:25-12:45
5th 12:45-1:05

Leaders of the Pack – Habit: Put First Things First

We are excited to celebrate our newest Leaders of the Pack who were selected by their teachers for demonstrating the Habit of Putting First Things First. These students consistently showed responsibility, focus, and perseverance by managing their time, making positive choices, and prioritizing their learning. We are proud of the example they set for others each day at Corral Drive!

Our next leadership focus will be Think Win-Win, where students will learn how to work together, solve problems fairly, and look for solutions that benefit everyone. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to grow strong leaders and a positive school community!

Exciting announcement! Corral Drive’s Sophia Li received a perfect score on the Spring 2025 South Dakota Math Assessment. This outstanding achievement is a testament to Sophia’s strong mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and dedication to learning. In fact, she is one of only 16 students statewide to reach this level of excellence. Congratulations to Sophia and her family on this remarkable accomplishment!

Thank you to everyone who was able to stop by today to say Merry Christmas and pick up or drop off items before Christmas break. We even had a visit from the Grinch, who tried to take our tree—but we were able to work it out and keep it. It was nice of him to stop by!

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. School will resume on Tuesday, January 6th.

Hello Families,

As we get closer to our Christmas Program on Tuesday, December 16th, we want to share some important information to help you prepare for the day:

• All programs will take place in the Southwest Middle School Gym.

• Because the first program begins at 8:30 AM, please do not arrive before 8:00 AM. Both Corral Drive and Southwest have heavy traffic between 7:30–8:00 due to student drop-off.

• Parking is available in any of the lots on both the Southwest and Corral Drive campuses.

• Families and guests will not be able to enter the Southwest Gym until after 8:00 AM for the first program. Please use the side gym doors for both entering and exiting.
Please do not use the Southwest Middle School front office doors.

• After each program, guests must exit through the same doors they entered. Middle school hallways will be closed to guests; only performing Corral Drive students will use those hallways.

• Please avoid arriving too early for your child’s program, as parking will be limited until the previous grade levels finish their performances.

• If you plan to check out your Southwest Middle School student to watch the Corral Drive program, please call the SWMS office that morning to request a pass. This helps prevent multiple interruptions to classrooms throughout the day.

• If you plan to check out your Corral Drive student, please drive to the Corral Drive Main Office to complete the checkout process.

November News
Students will be completing their middle-of-the-year assessments December 8th–12th to measure the growth they’ve made since the beginning of the year. Teachers will use this information to plan instruction and interventions as we move into the second semester in January.

It is important for students to be in school during these days so they don’t miss their assessments, which would require rescheduling and additional testing time. Please help ensure your child is present during December 8th–12th.

Thank you!

💛 World Kindness Day – Thursday, November 13th! 💛

At Corral Drive, we’re celebrating World Kindness Day today by focusing on showing kindness to our classmates, teachers, and everyone around us! As we head into the Thanksgiving season, we’re setting a schoolwide goal to use our manners, lend a helping hand, and spread kindness each day.

Let’s make the next couple of weeks a time where kindness shines throughout our school! 🌟

🌟 Leaders of the Pack! 🌟

Congratulations to our most recent Leaders of the Pack for showing what it means to Begin with the End in Mind! These students have demonstrated great goal setting, planning, and purpose in their learning and actions. We’re so proud of the focus and determination they show each day as they lead our Coyote Pack! 🐾

As we move into November and December, our next habit focus is Put First Things First — learning how to prioritize what’s most important, manage time wisely, and make responsible choices. We can’t wait to see our students continue to grow as leaders who know how to take charge of what matters most! 🍂

🌟 Special Cultural Showcase – Featuring Hoop Dancer Tara Kingi for Native American Heritage Month! 🌟
We are excited to announce that professional hoop dancer Tara Kingi will be performing at our Student Showcase on Friday November 21st at 1:15 PM!
As part of this celebration, we invite Native American students who have regalia to take part in an opening intertribal dance. An intertribal song (2–3 minutes) will be played, and all dance styles are welcome.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their culture, build confidence, and shine in front of their peers—followed by an inspiring performance by Tara Kingi.
✨ If your student would like to participate in the opening dance, please let us know before the assembly. ✨
In addition, we invite all students and staff to join in the celebration by wearing moccasins or moccasin slippers as part of the "Rock Your Mocs" movement. You’re also encouraged to wear turquoise on the 21st in honor of Native American Heritage Month.
We look forward to celebrating culture, tradition, and student pride together!
